Accessibility

Accessibility Statement

New Haven Navigator is committed to making social services information accessible to everyone, including people with disabilities.

Our Standards

We aim to meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA guidelines. Our design system uses a minimum 7:1 color contrast ratio (WCAG AAA), touch targets of at least 48px, and supports keyboard navigation throughout.

Features

Skip navigation links, proper heading structure, ARIA labels on all interactive elements, screen reader announcements for dynamic content, reduced motion support, and high contrast mode support.

Languages

The full site is available in English and Spanish, including all resource descriptions, the eligibility wizard, and the AI chat assistant.

Mobile

Designed mobile-first with large touch targets, readable text sizes (no pinch-to-zoom required), and offline support via service worker.

Known Limitations

Map components (Leaflet) may have limited screen reader support. Some resource hours use abbreviated formats. The AI chat assistant may occasionally produce responses that are not fully accessible.

Feedback

If you have difficulty using this site or have suggestions for improvement, please email pwmcgovern@gmail.com. We take accessibility feedback seriously and will work to resolve issues promptly.
