How texting works
Text delivery is active from both the website and the phone hotline. Open any resource page and choose “Text this resource to a phone,” or ask the hotline assistant to text a resource to the mobile number you are calling from. Two-way operational SMS support is available in English and Spanish only.
Registered SMS program: NHV Navigator SMS Line, the texting service operated by New Haven Navigator. New Haven Navigator is owned and operated by Navigator Technologies LLC.
The phone hotline is live now
Call anytime for help finding resources. The hotline is available 24/7 in English and Spanish. After the assistant finds a resource, ask to receive it by text at the mobile number you are calling from. The assistant will read the complete SMS disclosure and send only after you explicitly say yes.

- Website (live): on a resource page, tap “Text this resource to a phone,” enter your own US mobile number, and deliberately check the separate consent box before tapping Send. The box is unchecked by default.
- Phone hotline (live in English and Spanish): after the assistant finds a resource, ask to receive it by text at the mobile number you are calling from. The assistant reads the complete disclosure below and sends only after you explicitly say yes. SMS keywords are not an initial opt-in method.

Hotline verbal consent
During a hotline call, the assistant reads this complete disclosure after finding a resource and before sending any text:
“I can text this resource to the mobile number you're calling from. You'll receive one text with the resource and at most one follow-up asking whether you connected. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out or HELP for help. Your consent is optional and is not required to use the hotline. Do you agree to receive these texts?”
- The caller must clearly say yes after the complete disclosure. Silence, uncertainty, or an earlier answer to another question does not count.
- The text goes only to the mobile number the caller is using. Navigator does not ask the caller to say a number aloud.
- Consent covers one requested resource message and at most one follow-up. Another resource requires the disclosure and an explicit yes again.
- If the caller declines, Navigator reads the resource details aloud and continues the call normally.
The optional opt-in form
This is an example of the consent form shown on each resource page:
Texting is entirely optional. Skip this form and continue using the complete directory, web assistant, or hotline without providing a phone number or SMS consent.
Choose how you want to continue
We ask for your mobile number and separate SMS consent only after you choose texting.
